Hayden Roulston wins Stage 2 of the 2011 Tour de Vineyards on Takaka Hill

2.1.11 'Happy To Conquer the Highroad' Hayden Roulston wins the climb to the top of the Marble Mountain, and the yellow jersey, with George Bennett (obscured) just behind in second place, and takes the U23 jersey. Of the top 10 riders on GC after stage 2, 7 are U23 grade.

Glenn Quentock (Pegasus) wins the Masters 3+ race, well clear of the chasing bunch.

Cath Cheatley (Whanganui) rode clear of the field to win the Womens race

Matthew Talbot (Papanui) at speed takes the Gardens of Eden corner after making an early break in the M1, M2 race.

Matthew Talbot judged a well timed sprint to take the win in the M1, M2 race, 2nd place to Dean Fulton (Fresh Choice), and Murray Sheridan (Tasman Glass) 3rd.

Jason Christie wins Race 1 from a 21 rider breakaway bunch, with James Williamson (R) in 2nd place and Mark Ryan (L) 3rd.

Stage 2 - Richmond to Takaka Hill

Tomorrow for Stage 2 the event starts from Richmond at The Stables, 9.30am.

2 sprints, 1st at Brightwater, 2nd at Wakefield, and then turns left onto 88 Valley Road, and comes out onto the Wai iti Valley Road about 4k from the Raey Saddle hill climb. From there through to Valley Road, Kohatu, Tapawera, Stanley Brook feed station, onto the Motueka Valley Road, and left at the Baton Bridge onto the West Bank Road, through to Riwaka, and onto SH60, with a feed station at the bottom of the infamous 'Marble Mountain' Takaka Hill, and 16k to the finish at 790m.
