Introduction and Club History
The Tasman Wheelers Cycling club has been running cycling races in the Nelson/Tasman area for many years first as The Upper Moutere Wheelers, then Star and Garters Wheelers and more recently Tasman Wheelers.
Our primary purpose is to provide safe, interesting and competitive club races for all riders both senior and junior.
We have more than 200 members from all over the Nelson Tasman regions.
Tasman Wheelers Cycling Club races cater for all abilities with five grades (A-E) so people can ride with others of similar ability & fitness. The E grade is used as an entry grade for riders new to the sport.
Visitors are especially welcome. No need to book, just come along to the next club race we would love to see you there!
We also host a several special events catering for club members and non-members new to the sport. These are often held on a Sunday.
Regular club races are held over the summer months on Saturday afternoons and shorter rides (blasts) are held on Tuesday evenings.
In winter we have a Winter Points Series, with a winner in each grade at the end of the series and a separate women's competition. This series is always very competitive with some exciting racing.
During the year we have club championships and alternately host the Tasman Centre Championships with Marlborough Cycling. We regularly have a competitive squad participating at the National Club Championships.
The club is run purely on a voluntary basis with a management committee. Any offers of help are always appreciated.
Other opportunities to help - such as helping to run the club races, helping with the timing system, race registrations, sign placement for races, driving support vehicles or helping to run the extra club events, club administration, sponsorship, publicity.
Tasman Wheelers Teams
The club enters three teams in the South Island Benchmark Elite Series - Elite Men, Elite Women and Masters.
